Gel Manicure Singapore Tips: How Do You Remove Gel Polish at Home Without Damaging Your Nails?
Having a gel manicure is really beautiful for your hands, and it lasts long too. However, we always come to a point where we are tempted to bite, pick or rip them off. Peeling off the polish can be weirdly satisfying but this is a big NO! Because doing so is also taking off layers of your nail bed, damaging your nails big time.
Not everyone has a lot of time to go to the salon to have the gel polish removed. But don’t fret, there are ways on how you can remove them at home safely, without having to worry about damaging your nails. You just have to follow this simple gel manicure Singapore tips below:
- Do it in a well-ventilated room or space.
The removal process takes time and patience, and you don’t want to breathe in all that acetone in a room without proper ventilation. The process should not be done in a rush, you’ll be needing about 30 minutes.
2. Rough up the top coat.
Use a coarse nail file but use it gently to sand down the top layer of your gel polish. You are not going to sand off all the gel polish; you are just going to rough up the top coat which is why you need to do it slowly. DO NOT file hard into the color because you only need to remove the shine.
3. Use Cuticle oil or thick cream to protect your skin.
Cover the skin that surrounds your fingertips and nails with cuticle oil or thick cream. Acetone is very drying, and you must protect your skin.
4. Soak cotton balls with acetone.
Soaking the polish with acetone is the main key here, but you need to do it right. Have the cotton balls overly saturated with acetone. It is highly recommended to refrain from using moisturizing lotions while doing this process since it can slow down the soaking time of acetone on your fingers.
5. Use aluminum foil.
Place the acetone-soaked cotton balls you made on top of each talon and then secure it by wrapping the aluminum foil around each of your fingertips. You can start with your non-dominant side of hand to make things easier for you. Do this process on all your nails.
You can check the status after 10 to 15 minutes. You will notice that the polish will look like it’s falling off your nail, and it looks lifted at the same time. The remaining polish of it should be removed with no to little pressure only but if not, you will have to soak it more again by adding about five more minutes.
6. Applying of elbow grease.
If they are all loosened, you can pull off the foil and apply little pressure to your nail using a cotton ball. Gentle spots may be removed using a nail stick by working under the gel to lift if off from your nail plate. Don’t share your nail stick with anyone, make sure to throw it away after using since it can become a breeding ground for bacteria.
Use coconut oil to soak your dry nails from the use of acetone. Do this for about five to seven minutes, and then apply cuticle oil right after. But if you are polishing again, you can skip doing this.
Hope this gel manicure Singapore tips can help you!
